Wood Mallet

These two mallets are made for detailed chiseling and light hammering. They are accented with brass or aluminum dowel pins.

One mallet is made from Maple, Walnut, Red Oak, and Purple Heart with aluminum pins. The other is made from Red Oak, Maple, and Walnut with brass pins. Both mallets have the same sandwich style construction with a notched center piece to better secure the head to the arm of the hammer. The center accent piece of the hammer is Red Oak veneered with Purple Heart or Walnut. The face of the mallets have a 90° angle on one side and ~80° on the other side. Each mallet has four brass or aluminum dowel pins that were epoxied in place and inserted into a 1/4" bored hole that was first drilled with a 3/16" Jobber bit. The mallets were sanded to 220 grit and the metal dowel ends were sanded to 600 grit to give them a brushed look. Two coats of an oil based Minwax polyurethane were applied.
