Epoxy Charcuterie Boards

| June 2023 |

This set of 3 charcuterie boards are made with Walnut, figured Walnut, and quilted end grain Maple mixed with Liquid Glass Deep Pour epoxy that was dyed with Black Transtint dye.

Working with wood and epoxy requires extensive wood preparation to flatten the piece and to remove any rotted, soft wood, or bark to provide a solid foundation for the epoxy to bind to. The molds were made from a mix of melamine, plywood, and plastic sheets joined with silicone caulk and screws. I used a vacuum chamber for the first pour to remove excess bubbles, but I did not use it for subsequent pours, and I saw no negative impact in the finished product.

Once the epoxy had cured, the boards could be demolded, planed down to a flat surface and cut to their final dimension. I then used black CA glue with activator to fill voids. The boards were sanded to 420 grit and finished with one coat of Rubio Monocoat and one coat of Blacktail Studio's Ceramic Hard Coat. The handles are black/ bronze drawer pulls with a 3" or 3.75" grip length.
